Ryan Bowling’s career evolves from journalist to online marketing specialist

Ryan Bowling’s career path over the past nine years illustrates how a background in writing and a strong professional network can take you anywhere…even into a new professional field. ryan bowling

While at Drury, Ryan majored in integrated media and writing. In the nine years following graduation, he pursued his love for journalism by working as a reporter for the Christian County Headliner News and as an editor at Nixa Xpress. These positions allowed him to cultivate relationships in the marketing field.

In October 2014, his professional connections sparked his move to Guaranty Bank as its new online marketing specialist. Guaranty Bank, head-quartered in Springfield, Mo., has nine full-service branches in Greene and Christian Counties and a loan office in Webster County.

In this new role, Ryan will produce website content for, post content through the bank’s myriad social media accounts and handle various special marketing projects throughout the year. He is excited about the creative aspects of the position and the opportunity to produce engaging content.

Ryan is well-suited for the writing projects ahead of him. In 2010 he was named the Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year and is the recipient of nearly 30 Missouri Press Association awards. He claims the springboard to his career was writing for The Mirror, Drury’s student paper.

“My college education laid the foundation for what has become a rewarding career. I’ve interviewed professional wrestlers like Jeff Jarrett, comedian Demetri Martin and presidential candidate Ralph Nader as a result. That background led to a slight career change, but everything I’ve learned has helped me down this path.”

Ryan’s personal life features a passion for running. He has completed a full marathon, the Bass Pro Marathon in 2012, and several half marathons. Ryan has also completed a Tough Mudder race and survived the Run for Your Lives zombie dash.
